Very attractive 1973 Triumph Stag Mk 2 for sale. This rust-free, well-preserved low mileage example was a fair-weather car only used recreationally until purchased by our client in 2014 from its long-term owner. Styled by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, only 2,871 models were built for export to the United States between 1970-1977.
This Stag was the 466th car built for 1973 and delivered new in Russet brown over beige. It currently shows 79,851 miles which we are told and believe to be original. It includes the owner's manual and a clear, California title.
The car arrived to our client in good condition wearing its original Russet Brown finish but he preferred blue. It was stripped to metal, all doors, bonnet, and boot removed, the engine area cleared, and a complete, high-quality color change to a close variant of Sapphire blue.
The high-quality work done looks stunning. The paint is glassy and smooth with consistency of quality even at the lowest points on the body, rockers, and valances including the door, boot, and bonnet undersides, jambs, and engine area. The alignments are excellent. New rubber was installed, and trim and chrome were refreshed as needed.
The car has a beautiful set of chrome wire wheels wrapped in P185/75 R14s. The original cloth soft-top is showing wear but serviceable as-is. The car also includes the original hardtop (not shown). It was not repainted though the paint codes will be provided. Overall the exterior presents beautifully.
The interior looks to be all original with the exception of the rugs which were recently replaced. The dash, wood, gauges, trim, and knobs look nice along with the seating, panels, cards, and steering wheel.
All gauges are in good working order, along with the factory-fitted Delaney Galley air conditioning system, electric windows, radio, wipers, and lighting. The interior has a charming slight patina and is comfortable for even the longest drives.
The 3.0L Triumph V8 has been rebuilt. It starts and runs beautifully with plenty of power. It was completely rebuilt in 2016, less than 5k miles ago. It has been re-bored to .40 over with new pistons, bearings, a reground crankshaft, new timing chains, original camshafts, new valves, seats, guides, springs, resurfaced heads, and block.
It has a fully programmable Davis-Craig electric water pump to maintain the perfect temperature while eliminating air bubbles and keeping the car cool at even the highest outside temperatures. The power steering and power-assisted brakes both work well making the car easy and fun to drive in any conditions.
Having personally owned many British cars including Triumph, MG, Jaguar, and Rovers throughout my adult life, this is the first experience I have had with a Stag and it is even better than I imagined. With its peppy, stout Rover V8 and being only 2,800 pounds with outstanding, responsive handling the Stag is a fantastic, powerful combination of sports car fun with luxury comfort like no other.
