This 1955 Bel Air was purchased brand new at Pellini Chevrolet in Sebastopol California by "Margaret K" July 7th of 1955. She traded in her 1938 Chevrolet Coupe for which the dealer gave her a $400 credit. This clean Belair was sold equipped with the Powerglide transmission, heater and two-tone paint for $2,627.90 plus tax and license. The original purchase order is included.
Over the years Margaret's Bel-Air would see two more owners in the Sebastopol area who did a magnificent job preserving her car and carrying it years into the future. 58,327 miles we see at the time of this description we are told to be the original. The car has seen one repaint.
The 235.5 cubic inch Blue Flame inline 6 starts and runs well. It is quiet and smooth though could benefit from a set of hardened rings or additives. Expect a bit of smoke at warm-up. The Powerglide shifts beautifully through all of the gears. The braking and suspension feel nice and the car is very easy and relaxing to drive.
The body is in beautiful condition, we see no rust anywhere. It's nice to see the original paint still gracing the door jambs and the spare tire. The Chrome and trim are a bit patina'd but they certainly look nice and appropriate on this special timepiece.
It still wears its original Pellini Chevrolet Sebastopol license plate frame. (The car would have originally had yellow plates with black lettering but by 1962 California was requiring that those plates be turned in and replaced with these now vintage black plates with gold lettering.) The correct whitewall tires look fantastic on the car and the stainless hubcaps set them off nicely.
When you open the doors you notice the original door panels which are in really great shape aside from some slight yet expected discoloration. The original headliner is present along with the original sun visors and grab handles on the b-pillars.
The carpet looks to have been done with proper materials at some point and we believe the seating has been redone. The steering wheel is original along with the paint on the dash and all the interior paint from the factory. Seatbelts have been added. The radio is not turning on.
Inside the trunk, all the original paint is showing and looks great, the mat is in nice shape the jack and lug wrench are present. The spare looks old enough to be one of the original tires. The original Jack stowage and jacking instructions sticker is still present.
The inside lid of the trunk also Sports the original paint, and a cool little sticker showing a tire purchase by the second owner at JCPenney in Sebastopol on July 13th of 1974.
At that time the car was showing 43,256 miles. The name of the second owner was "Albin M", also from Sebastopol.
This is a beautifully preserved and original Belair that came from and has lived in the same town since it arrived there in 1955.
