We have a very nice 1953 MGTD Roadster for sale. This attractive California sports car was purchased by the most current owner in the spring of 2007 from its 3rd Southern California owner. Since then it has traveled 2,200 miles. It includes its owners manual and a 78-page cache of service records dating back to 1970. It even wears both early black and gold California license plates!
This TD starts runs and drives great! The numbers matching motor was rebuilt by the previous owner and now has a little under 3,000 miles on it. Stopping and shifting is great with just over 2k miles on the braking systems and clutch.
An MGA rear end was installed for easy highway cruising. Handling is tight with rebuilt front-end; new lower control arms, tie rod ends and bushings along with new shocks.
The interior was refurbished some time ago but presents well and is quite comfortable. It has a comfortable leather-wrapped, polished alloy 4-spoke wheel. The gauges are in working order along with all of the lighting including the blinkers which are activated by a 3-position toggle switch at the lower edge of the center of the dash.
The speedometer was replaced in 1971 and reset to zero so it appears that it has traveled 51,580 miles since, about 1,100 miles yearly.
The body and paint look very nice, have aged well and appear to be of exceptional quality. The chrome on the car is very nice, slightly aged in a couple of areas but by-and-large very brilliant, especially around the windscreen and its mounting pieces, light trim, and the bumpers. It has a nicely fitting canvas tonneau cover.
The older original style vinyl top was not reinstalled after restoration but is in decent, usable shape if the new owner wishes to reinstall. Side curtains are included and look good and are clear. The painted steel wheels and hubcaps were restored at some point and present nicely.
This is a lovely old TD with 50-years of documented history. A well-loved and cared for California car that should provide years of fun. The records are available for download and be sure to see the video as well.
