We are proud to offer this lovely 1935 Auburn Phaeton Model 851 Convertible for sale from long term private ownership. Designer Gordon Buehrig created this Flamboyantly styled 851 after designing for Packard, Dietrich, Stutz, Duesenberg, and General Motors in Detroit.
This special pre-war touring classic has been with the same Southern California family now for 53 years. Much of the restoration was performed in the 1970s and 1980s and was used for local Southern California drives and events into the mid-1990s before being put into storage. The car was originally sourced from the Pasadena area has been in California since new.
It was put into family storage in Nevada in 1997 until brought to us in Sonoma and serviced to prepare for a sale. This full classic includes a large cache of documentation.
The inline-eight cylinder 279.9 cubic inch Lycoming 115bhp engine #GG2560 was replaced during its restoration with #GG3284 which starts and runs well. Its 3-Speed Manual Transmission with Dual-Ratio Differential functions nicely as well. The fuel, 4-Wheel Drum Brakes and cooling systems were just refreshed.
The car cruises comfortably and smoothly with its front and Rear leaf spring suspension, shifting, steering, and braking. In addition, its Startex system functions perfectly.
The Flamboyantly styled exterior has also has aged well. The body is straight and clean and the attractive two-tone paint has a deep shine to it. The chrome shows well and the top is in excellent condition. The original side glass is delaminating after 85 years. All in all, it is an attractive and presentable example.
The interior is comfortable and attractive and was fully restored at that time. It is finished in green to compliment the body tones and shows well after all of these years. The top is in good shape and the interior trim, bezels, and chrome still show nicely.
Please take note that the clock, fuel and RPM gauges are currently inoperable and a radio faceplate is installed in the place of a radio.
This lovely Auburn Phaeton is ready for its new caregiver and unlimited decades ahead.
